| I'm just wondering, do you ever get pissed of when a review starts of with " This LP is great, its got a nice package too." I have no problem with collectors that listen to their LPs, but I get pissed off by the fuckers who just seem to collect them, nailing the picture dicks around and using the LPs like a big poster. Especially now vinyl seem popular. |

I listen to all the vinyls I buy and 90% of the time I only buy vinyls or tapes for my personal collection._________________ SKULLFUCKINGMETAL DISTRO/LABEL. Not really related to LPs in particular, but I do get pissed by reviewers who take into accounts band pictures and artwork when rating a CD.
But I guess there's so many power metal CDs that sound alike, there's got to be a good artwork to tell a difference between these bands. _________________ si tu te réveilles un matin sans avoir mal nulle part, c'est que tu es mort

I don't have a problem with anything NWN do, as their catalogue is pretty much spotless as far as quality goes (not so sure about Armour myself, but as far as other new bands go, its all good), and the guy clearly puts a considerable amount of time and effort into the majority of the releases. I do have to wonder though about how releases seem to sell out in weeks / days. Where did all these people who apparently like these underground bands come from? (I realise the internet has had a major impact in recent years...) And if they're already familar with the old bands that are being reissued, why would they need an album a second time?
Take some recent Motorhead re-issues that Back on Black have put out. Why would anyone want them, when 1) its cheaper to buy an original second hand copy 2) the artwork isn't taken from the original source, and very often appears stretched or pixelated and 3) modern vinyl pressings are crap. They weigh half a ton, yet the flimsy paper thin copies made in the 80's always sound considerably better.
Why would anyone buy them? Because they're an idiotic collector who'll buy them without second thought, despite they already own the album 6 times (not to mention in 3 different colours, even though the fact that any colour other than black, red or blue looks SHIT. Orange? Fuck off!). Yet half of these idiots are unable to express what it is they like about the band i the first place! Its like being married to a girl for 20 years, only to realise one day that she's an ugly cow, has buck teeth, a dull personality and fucks like a moose. I guarentee that half the people buying these collector editions will sell them off within a year, as they'll realise there is nothing they like about the band.
With collecting, the chase is always better than the catch (and that ain't just with regards to Motorhead either!). |
