| maybe Im wrong but today there more and more yound bands that play old swedish death metal sound and I think thet hyperproduction of it will make one more trend that we really dont need. No matter, still there are some great young bands that glorify the old death spirit. | |

| Way I see it, as long as its old styled sounding death metal, it's usually good in my books. I'm not one that is into Tech or Progressive death metal and melodic death metal can fuck right off as well for the most part! _______________________ SKULLFUCKINGMETAL DISTRO/LABEL. | I picked up a few copies of Mandatory-...Where They Bleed mcd from Asphyxiate Recordings. I have to say that it is a fine work. I don't care about trends. I care about quality, and they possess that.
Anyhow, I support and agree with your intent with the thread, but who knows....some of these guys might actually just enjoy this type of playing...but I am sure they are the minority.

| The problem with the old Death Metal trend wasn't so much that they all sounded the same, but rather that they sounded so tired, so lifeless. It was the big problem of Morrisound and Sunlight, they sucked out the primal energy of the bands from their demo days.
Whilst there are a few bands today who aren't so interesting (Graveyard, Maim...), there are plenty more who play with the same energy as all the old 'celebrated' bands did.

If you're only energetic you will at best play energetic thrash... Death metal needs much more than that... The old 'celebrated' bands were celebrated for far more than simple energy... (I'm not talking about freshly cultified old bands, but the real juicy deal) _______________________ Cadaveric ringtones for free, just click: http://nihilistic-webzine-distro.fr

Such as....? Undoubtedly there are poor copies of bands of the past around today, but why get so ground down by them? Does it really matter if they're the 'next big thing'?

Deep emotion, atmosphere, thrills of anger etc etc Energy is just... A release of everyday's stress? - christkum wrote:

Very average bands to become the next big thing, yes it bothers me, all the more when it's in "MY" world. Why shouldn't it? _______________________ Cadaveric ringtones for free, just click: http://nihilistic-webzine-distro.fr

Energy is just... A release of everyday's stress? Sure, but I don't think that these were exclusive to just the bands of the past, bands can still create atmospheric music today. Are they Death Metal? Probably not, the genre will probably just become a stagnant relic, no better than country and western. But I see no huge harm in bands like Morbus Chron or Vasaeleth doing this (as long as there are other bands who continue to create, to push the potentials of Death Metal beyond what it already is too.) This isn't a problem just for Death Metal but for the 20th Century as a whole (too many new platforms for expression - the internet, 3D film, the gaming industry etc etc - but nothing new is being said with them, it's all made in the exact same manner as the past.) Energy is what drives creativity. No exuberance, no new ideas.
