Since 2005,
The Governor’s Ball:
The “Mighty” Metal and Comedy Show, has brought laughter and headbanging fury to the metal community. Beginning in the bowels of Toronto community radio and led by the enigmatic character simply known as The Governor, this hilariously violent program has attracted a dedicated and somewhat homicidal fanbase who revel in The Governor’s words and the powerful metal he would spin in every episode.
In early 2008 The Governor escaped the oppressive clutches of futuristic game show hosts and even his own clone and headed to cyberspace. The Governor’s Ball now the mighty podcast it is today, attracts hundreds of listeners with each episode. Each show is a mighty adventure, featuring headbanging metal tracks, words of wisdom from The Governor and his good friend Sly, along with interviews from the biggest metal stars in the world to local acts bursting on to the Canadian scene. The Governor also has a film currently in production entitled “The Governor of Metal” documenting his metal adventures around the world with the some of metals most mighty players.
Upcoming guests on The Governor’s Ball include members of
Judas Priest,
Arch Enemy,
Enslaved,
As I Lay Dying,
Lordi, and from CBC’s The Hour,
George Stroumboulopoulos.
The Governor has twice ventured into the live arena, bringing the metal/comedy force to the stage in the form of The Governor’s Bash concerts previously headlined by Calgary’s pirates
Verbal Deception and Montreal’s circus metallers
Unexpect. Now for the third time The Governor returns with a live spectacle set to boil the blood and crush the skulls of those who oppose metal with the announcement of The Governor’s Bash 3, Saturday August 23rd at The Annex Wreckroom in Toronto.
The show is headlined by Sault Ste Marie’s
Gates of Winter. Currently promoting their release “
Lux Aeterna,” this mighty group combines the symphonic elements of power metal with the fury of modern heavy progressive music. Recently the band has announced their acquisition of David Gold (
Woods of Ypres) on drums and will be performing two Woods tracks at the Bash.
Direct support comes from Montreal’s Satanic Viking thrashers
Talamyus. These pillaging maniacs have released a slab of true metal fury with their latest album “
…In These Days of Violence” out now on Prodisk records. They also brought the house down in a recent performance in Montreal with humpa-metal masters Finntroll, spreading word of their intense live performances.
The Bash opens with Toronto’s stoner doomers
The Womb. With their debut EP receiving rave reviews, this formidable foursome exudes a powerful groove while maintaining massive heaviness.
Finally the stage will be graced by The Governor himself who will host this spectacular metal event, bringing his hilarious words of wisdom to the hungry metal masses, shamelessly touting his own extreme power and metal fury, along with special guests.
