| There have been some decent compilation tapes/CDs released in the last year (Awakening of the Dead, Hellbangers metal forces, Litanies of Sacrilege etc etc), but which is the best compilation of all time?!?
My favourite's probably the Warfare Noise Vol I (Believers of Hell!), though most of the decent US thrash compilations of the 80's never made it to the UK. Instead there were a few with local bands of bad Metallica plagiarized riffs (Slammer, Acid Reign, and all the other bad crossover crap).

| Compilations in 2008 are quite useless... At least it's really less efficient than 10 years ago, and so it should be free for the bands to be featured, and (almost) free for the listener to get a copy...
It's fucking boring once released on tape... If you don't like a band, what should you do? Listen anyway? Bleurgh. _______________________ Cadaveric ringtones for free, just click: http://nihilistic-webzine-distro.fr

| I would have thought the opposite, nearly all the compilations that a given away for free on the covers of magazines end up being unlistenable, as half of the bands are only on there as space fillers. The compilations that have to be bought tend to be from more dedicated bands, whose material is more unified to the compilation (not one second broootal deaf, then one man blaagck, then porno guff.).
They're probably useless for bands that only use the internet for all their promotion, but it's best to cover all areas (or best to have a good sounding band first, then the promotion comes by itself...).
Do bands have to pay to be on a compilation???

Do bands have to pay to be on a compilation??? "it should be free for the bands to be featured and free for the listener" doesn't mean every and any band would be wellcome, as the guy who runs the compilation should choose them... The problem with many samplers lies in the fact the bands have to pay to be a part of it (To pay for the printing costs), and so the selection occurs basically on a matter of $$... Many magazines work this way, and so there are many fillers... _______________________ Cadaveric ringtones for free, just click: http://nihilistic-webzine-distro.fr

I can understand them needing to get the money back on compilations that don't contain any exclusive material, but I can't understand why anyone would pay to be on one.... There's a nice looking compilation coming out soon from Soulseller (Bombs of Hades, Eviscerated, Darkcreed etc). I wonder what happened to the compilation Final Punishment were going to do....
