A good review was posted on CONTAMINATED TONES:
Glaukom Synod hack through covers of Napalm Death, Led Zeppelin and Bolt Thrower in 16-bit glory on Covered in Semen and Slime. Though a few originals are thrown in, the real treasures here are experiencing selections of Death Metal's roots worshiped in an extraordinarily heavy, and crusty and unique manner. Led Zeppelin's "Dazed and Confused" performed by the machinery of a bottling factory and conducted by an army of garbage trucks is cool but gets lost among covers of "World Eater" and "Scum." The harshness and repetitiveness of the samples used across these renditions is enough to cause uncontrollable bleeding in the ear-sockets. The covers are all discernible, all pristinely executed, and take the extremes of the originals and emphasize the dystopian vibes flowing forth from within. Frank Klepacki would be excited to hear this and if you're a fan of his soundtracks but felt "Mud" or "Hell March" just wasn't quite minimalist enough, get in contact with Nihilistic Holocaust for a copy. A good review of the new GLAUKOM SYNOD demo has appeared on the German webzine NECROSLAUGHTER.

Erst kürzlich las ich noch über die vergessenen Industrial-Wurzeln des Grindcores im Grinded Into Sludge und nun flattert mir die neue Scheibe von GLAUKOM SYNOD ins Haus. Ein passender Zufall, wenngleich man eine Beziehung zwischen den beiden Musikrichtungen nicht direkt herstellen kann. Denn GLAUKOM SYNOD sind doch etwas traditioneller im Industrial, als das Nebenprojekt KATAPLASM, die elektronischen “Grindcore” fabrizieren, oder der andere Nebenarm GUTTURALIA XXX, das in ähnliche Brutal Death Metal meets Grindcore meets Industrial Ecke geht. Nein, da gefällt mir “Covered In Semen And Slime” mit seinem etwas moderaterem Ansatz deutlich besser. Das liegt vielleicht daran, dass es das älteste Projekt aus dem genannten Trio ist, und bereits über einige Releases seinen Stil finden und festigen konnte.
Für mich ist es jedenfalls der erste Kontakt zu GLAUKOM SYNOD. Und auch wenn ich mir die 8 Songs nicht häufig geben werde, in gewissen Situationen ist dieser rhythmisch treibende Industrial sehr cool! Natürlich ist der Godflesh-Stempel ganz groß auf der Musik. Doch viele verspieltere Harmonien lassen auch Einflüsse von Skinny Puppy oder Ministry erkennen. Dazu gibt es immer wieder Passagen, die etwas die Absurdität von alten Computerspiel-Soundtracks haben. Day Of The Tentacle lässt grüßen!
Doch wenngleich “Covered In Semen And Slime” eindeutig ein Elektro/Industrial-Album ist, merkt man auch den Einfluss aus dem Heavy Metal. Nicht nur an den Cover-Songs und Remixen von Napalm Death, Led Zeppelin und Bolt Thrower – die ich zugegebenermaßen niemals wiedererkannt hätte -, sondern auch am stellenweise deutlich härteren Ansatz. Für mich ist es eine interessante Bereicherung des Sounds.
Regelmäßige Gänger zum Maschinenfest werden an dieser Stelle vielleicht schmunzeln und mir direkt vergleichbare und/oder härtere Bands aufzählen können. Doch drauf geschissen, denn der geneigte Industrial-Fan wird mit Sicherheit nicht auf einem Death Metal/Grindcore Webzine nach neuen Inspirationen suchen. Dies ist wohl eher ein Blick über den Tellerrand für den Punk und Metalhead, der gerne schon mal Gloom Warfare, Godflesh, die Morbid Angel/Laibach-Kollaboration und so weiter hört. Da macht GLAUKOM SYNOD eine gute Figur. Und interessant ist sicherlich auch der Umstand, dass die komplette Sache mit 16bit Software komponiert und programmiert wurde.
Für einen geringen Obolus von 1,50€ bekommt man die auf 50 Einheiten limitierte und nummerierte CDr beim Label Visceral Circuitry (oder der nächsten Bestellung beim Schwesternlabel Nihilistic Holocaust). Dank digitaler Welt, kann man aber auch auf Bandcamp reinlauschen und gegen eine freiwillige Spende ohne Untergrenze (sprich: auch kostenlos) runterladen.
