| Is the 80's music as much a curse as a blessing?
Sure there are all the great releases, but do some people maybe have their heads stuck too much in the past? To the point where they are unwilling to buy anything new- i.e. this 'I don't listen to anything after 1990' attitude.
Consider if nobody was willing to try out any of the thrash/death demo tapes because they weren't up to the 'quality' of NWOBHM. Nothing new qould be made, and alot of the quality bands would have been forgotten, never to of had the opertunity to record their LPs.
Now to the present day, this situation has come true, and to many bands are ignored. Maybe what I'm trying to say is TRY SOME OF THE DEMO BANDS!!!! Get in touch with them! If their taste isn't too good, maybe introduce them to a few classics eh? So what if there are posers about! Always has been and always will!
Maybe I'm just pissed at the guys who boast about their demo trading days in the 80's, then you ask what they do now they say 'I don't listen to metal anymore, cus its all shit. Slipknot are good though......'
(of course you could argue that most of the best bands were only on demo MCs. So even more reason to try out some of the underground shit coming out now! And its cheaper than trying to get Death Yell from Ebay for £40, no? £40 buys 20-30 tapes.)

| I agree, the retro and howwwld school has became quite trendy, many metallers being odler than 22 years old will only listen to old stuffs and can't talk about anything else than the "Good old times"... It's quite funny to see peoples talk about the good old times... When these "Good old times" are only dating back to 5-6 years sometimes! :sarcastic: I even saw on some webzines, they reviewed some 4 years old albums in the "nostalgia" section! What's the fucking fuck? * I currently don't listen to much metal... Mostly industrial stuffs from the 80's/ 90's I couldn't hear.. I recently discovered G.G.F.H., it's not bad at all! I also listen to some regular hard rock/ metal, old trip hop, fast as fuck jungle, various kinds of noisy or quite regular rock... Trying to discover things I didn't know. Howwwld school scenesteries are too "suffocating" for me right now. | |

| ya im with you guys on this one, hearing the term old school quite often these days. i remember when people made fun of me for listening to RAZOR or DEATH ANGEL because of their haircuts, haha and now this is considered to be cool. It's quite amusing actually. _______________________ SKULLFUCKINGMETAL DISTRO/LABEL. Canadian Extreme Metal & Experimental Noize Distribution: http://skullfuckingmetal.blogspot.com

| I buy new albums very rarely and when I do, I almost always regret it. the last real great new album I bought dates back to 2001 (it was Gorguts' last record)
I feel like today's releases only repeat what's been done before, it's good copy at very best. so I prefer save money on seeking the originals. this so-called old school wave doesn't interest me. _______________________ si tu te réveilles un matin sans avoir mal nulle part, c'est que tu es mort. do you like the stuff from 95-2000? Just that it was a period when the mainstream was full of shit (always is hehe) so you could know if someone was playing underground stuff, you knew they WERE into it. Now it seems everyone says 'we are into Possessed/Beherit/Blasphemy/Kreator' etc, then when you listen you think HOW?!?! - Quote :

Watch Eraserhead or Man bites dog or Tetsuo: Iron Man whilst listening to Godflesh - Tigi wrote:

Is this old 80's Thrash bands that reform, or modern bands that play in the thrash style? I'll admit, most reformations are shit (except Vulcano!), but there are some decent bands around! Just keep looking! - worshipsatanzine wrote:

they both suck to me. both new and old bands seem incapable of creating fresh metal riffs. yes there are bands that sound good, but it's just the same old stuff repeated over and over. and I'm not stupid enough to believe a sample or a downtuned guitar will make the whole shit sound new. give me fresh riffs. that's all I need, but I need it so bad _______________________ si tu te réveilles un matin sans avoir mal nulle part, c'est que tu es mort. Try other kinds of music, really! This is what I'm currently doing, and I didn't have this feelings of freshness since a long time... Only focused on few styles for a long time tends to boredom!

It's so full of sorrow and desillusion... For the 70's it's surprising.

is this some kind of prog-rock? I have the first KING CRIMSON and the first song is killer too, but the rest is too much slow/calm for me. anyways, I'm big into Bach these days (no, not the one from SKID ROW :sarcastic: ) _______________________ si tu te réveilles un matin sans avoir mal nulle part, c'est que tu es mort. And the vocals are really strong! I'm sure you'd like this song! :up

| I listen to old school music because it's the only thing out there that i've found that is good. I try all the new demo bands and i might find 1 in 4321543728543206734263 that is listenable and thats usually because they are embodying the old school "MAKE MUSIC FOR YOURSELF FIRST AND FUCK EVERYONE ELSE AFTER" attitudes.
Maybe this makes me one of those people you were talking about in the initial post, but oh well. _______________________ My awful bands! http://www.misterpunch.net/godimpaler - 80's alcohol thrash http://www.myspace.com/crustlustband - crust/grind attack

| I'm quite bored with peoples who claim to listen only and exclusively one kind of music or one epoch.
It has became so easy to find music in various ways, that being narrow minded to 1 style sounds fucking forced, extremely lazy, or simply a facade...
Extreme lazyness and total lack of curious doesn't fit with passion in my hears... Unless music is only a way to spend time...

| Up to now, any band using the OLD SCHOOL term will become homo!
Find your own words, styles, riffs and personality fucking poofters! If you can't write music of your own, what's the use of recording music? What do you express?? The walk of the corporate sheeps walking in line?
FUCKING POOFTERS! | |
