Also, I think it is funny because they have a black man for a model for the jacket. Maybe they think "black metal" means "heavy metal for black people"

Darkthrone are said to be a NS band mainly from the fact that Norsk Arysk Black Metal (Norwegian Aryan Black Metal) was written in the back of their album Transylvanian Hunger.Later on they denounced that and now they maintain an apolitical thesis as a band.

That is just plain sad! This is the main reason I never wear anything Darkthrone. This kind of capitalism is just sick. Well I guess they gotta make that money? I personally like obsure black emtal bands that are not liked by the mainstream black metal fans.

In my suburb, in France, the "throne" is often reffered to the chair inside the water closets, the mighty torture chair on which you sit to have a shit.

It seems quite natural for some to call it the "Dark throne"

I don't mind DARK THRONE man, I'm not going to hate them cause of their hot topic situation. But I will laugh everytime I hear from someone that they are "true Norweigien Black Metal" from now on :cherry:

DARKTHRONE were playing pure Death metal on their first album,
it was quite technical and it was called techno death back then...
And suddenly, they became grim, true, raw, and learnt how to play simplistic music and very repititive drumming!
I don't understand how the drummer of the first album couldn't feel bored with the very simple playing of the following Lps...

A guy who was in touch with the drummer at the time (The guy who runs the PARADISE LOST, DR SHRINKER, PHOENIX MILITIA fan sites and plays in GOAT THROTTLER) told me they stopped playing technical death, because every bands were evolving in that direction... He said DARKTHRONE were quite fucked up about it and wanted to be different, so they chose the raw way...
Maybe it was different, and quite original, but I'm not sure if this kind of reaction can be considered as sincere, as it wasn't some really deep evolution, just some reactionist attitude in a way.
Especially since the first years of the band (demos + 1st Lp) were dedicated to playing and improving their death metal...

It is different for a band to go from playing technical jazz influenced death metal in the mid 80's to playing raw influencial black metal, i'm pretty sure that if Dark Throne didn't make this change, ALOT of black metal bands that exist wouldn't ever of been kreated!!

but the change was less important between AMPUTATION/ early OLD FUNERAL and early IMMORTAL. In this case it sounded more like an EVOLUTION that a drastic change...
