Reviews and promotions: this zine needs two CDs!?

I sent a promo to the german webzine LEGACY, and received this answer. Strange isn't it?

So, they don't want any CDr, but only pro CDs!! (That's nice for the self-produced bands) and each one has to send 2 Copies!!
Even the biggest paper magazines do not ask 2 copies! What the fuck in there?

"Hi,

got your latest release, but I´m sorry to say: we do NOT review CD-Rs.
Instead you have to send TWO original copies for a review,
because we always need two copies for a review, otherwise we can not
longer feature your releases due to editorial reasons. We have to send
out one copy to the freelancer writing the review and one copy is
remaining at our office to do cover-scans, layout and just listen to
what is going to be featured in our magazine. So please be so kindly to
change your mailing-list to supply us with one more copy in the future.
This is our last reminder! Thanks in advance."

It's all German written, but it seems they didn't write anywhere:
"NO CDR REVIEWED" and "SEND TWO CDs FOR 1 REVIEW"

That's pathetic. I smell a rip off here Gab!

See, they probally want two pro pressed cd's, to sell them on ebay, or even on a "trade list" somewhere. Or they are just plain greedy maybe?

Do you send out lots of IBF promos man?

all depends on the $$$ situation but i try and get a copy to all legit places that specifically ask for review material. i personally think i have sent out a lot of stuff over the years though, but we have also had alot of releases :rireee:

You will probably notice you have sent a lot of stuffs,
but didn't receive that much reviews in return... Even from peoples who asked for a promo, or agreed to received a promo... ( :row17 )

Sometimes, some peoples review your release, but do not send you the review... And you have no possibility to find it! (they run a paper zine or their site can't be found in the big search engines like Google...)
It's a bit fucked...

Or like you, who uploads all their reviews on their webzine.

That's pretty cool as the reviewer is getting promotion as well, for promoting a band. It's a win/win situation.
