| What is this hardcore? I always thought it was the porn where the women fuck a horse....... Nihilistic Horse.
I don't mind when bands bring in the punk drumming, if anything it's better than all the NWOBHM, Exciter, Mercyful Fate etc etc etc.
And when does a band go from being metal to metalcore?!? When they're shit???

| Lately, some metalcore bands used more and more metal influences, so it's not very easy to 'categorize' them... The problem might be some of them do not have a lot of metal background, and what they try to bring to the metal scene is... Riffs many metal bands play for years! | |

| hardcore = faster, often groovier punk. ie: bad brains, cro-mags, black flag.
metalcore = a broad genre, that usually includes very down tuned guitars, aggressive riffs, and breakdowns. ie: blood has been shed, lamb of god, killswitch engage.

| If the problem with death metal is that it's become overly complex, irrelevant and doesn't crush enough poser's balls, shouldn't they be encouraged to listen to more of the core then? (Theres shit hardcore and theres good hardcore. I'm thinking more along the DRI, MDC, Siege, Heresy etc lines).
Especially seen as most of the bands in the 'good old 80's' were listening as much punk as metal (admittedly because there wasn't much else around at the time).

| I don't know if it's really a problem of musical influences... If the feeling of death and total putrefaction had to flow, it would a way or another, with or without any kind of musical influence... Important factors might be found anywhere else, in our current ways of life, daily habbits etcs... Quite a lot of things have changed since the end 80's... And extreme music doesn't seem to be so fucking important and vital anymore for a lot of metal heads (Even if quite a lot dare to say so on the net...). The context is definitely not the same than years ago, back then some peoples could almost DIE for their music. | |

I suppose you can look on the bright side, the scenes not going to get any worse than it is now! (admttedly it's better than it was in '99-00, but only slightly). + I'm only 20, so can't know how good the 80's were. But do you get the feeling that it's being exagerated by some? A bit like the Norweigian Black metal, made out to be better than what it really was? (obviously there were the metal nutters, who are still around today, but what of the rest?)

| I began listening to metal in 1994, when Death metal was seriously beginning to die... So I can't have a totally realistic vision of the thing, but yes I think some peoples are exagerating about how good the 80's were! (You could see it as some kind of "Grandad saying how gooood it was... while it wasn't sooo god... Nostalgia often tends to accentuate the positive and reduce the negative...)
Of course, there were a lot of killer and cult releases recorded in the 80's and beginning 90's... But there were also a LOT of average, boring, or copycat bands... The current situation mostly differs from the very few amount of really really good bands, and the scene that became really strange due to the Internet... It's not the same kind of contact than it was with snail mails... But it wasn't so easy with snail mails either...

| It depends on... Of Corpse 80`s were awesone in S.America many brutal bands in Brazil,Chile,Colombia,Perú. There was more feeling without Internet just the real maniax were interested in tapetrading or just using snail mail to get in touch with bands, zines, etc.
Now with internet everything is much easier and boring ...There're lots of stupid kidz pretending to be evil talking shit in the web thru "myspace", "gayblogs",etc. and They never will ever use snail mail to support the so called Ug they always are talking about...They seem to think Ug deals with wearing a Dimmu Analborgir or Cradle of Wimp t-SHIrT or being so Viking or Aryan They're like plague and need to be spayed :sarcastic: |

| "There was more feeling without Internet "
That's exactly what I think! The letters were much longer and passionated than emails... Really much more!! At the beginning, Internet was something very exciting and killer, but in few years it shew some really negative points... Nowadays, I am even lazy to get in touch with someone through email to discuss or something... There are too big chances for the person even do not answer, and you don't really know who's behind the other computer... Through snail mail you knew who you were talking to, and some exchanges could last during YEARS LONG! Now, many peoples change their monicker every 6 months to "disappear" and have a newer and fresh "Cyber identity"...
A snail mail scene is still alive, but it's mostly older peoples, and some are VERY conservative, and totally against anything web-related... It's too much, sometimes it's even more sterile than the web they deny...

Some of the best interviews are with the early Florida bands. "So it must have been great to be a part of the scene at the time!" - and most of them played barely 10 shows, made no money and were only producing music for barely 2 years (but they are still in contact with the real fans from the time....). - macabrepest wrote:
